ABERCROMBIE AND FITCH

Countdown on the Champs- Elysées as the phenomenal works undergoing on that last block at 23 Champs-Elysées are coming to a final episode for a sensational opening in May 2011.

A few shots of the long awaited brand.

The famous Moose has been grazing in American fields since 1892; there you go for an old piece.
It started out as a very fashionable hunters and fishermen's joint and no New Yorker could go without it's own ABERCROMBIE & FITCH hamper.

And now, it has become the most sought after brand for youngsters ! Amazing !

RIVER AFTERWORK at l'ATELIER DU FRANCE

The new "IT" Lounge -Bar in Paris is not just in a regular bar of some sorts, not under a fancy bridge, nor in a Garcia hotel but onboard  l'ATELIER du FRANCE!

Why such a name ? Why such a place ?

Not onboard  any ship but the very ATELIER du FRANCE; yes, you heard me, the FRANCE, "THE" so famous French  streamliner. ATELIER du FRANCE is the latest Lounge bar to be anchored on Paris shores at the Port de Grenelle, just across the Maison de la Radio.

First get a good glimpse of THE place and of the FOOD ( important after all even in a mini skirt and high heel boots you still want to have a good bite, don't you ?).

A lightly cracking fire in the fireplace in Winter, perfect for this week's white and freezing Alaskan days.
A sunny terrace for these nearly there Summer nights ( always carry on hoping, it's good for you !), a harmoniously original wine list, Bellota-Bellota so onctious your tongue will gurgle some Spanish in a minute's time without a single flaw and with an extra ease in swallowing the "s"s  like the local Andalusan do, delicate and bite size sardines from Galicia with wonderful fresh and creamy butter from Bordier, a wooden board handsomely adorned with an army of  Bernard Antony's famous savoury cheeses, Ladurée will kindly hook its sweet and tender desserts and you won't resist the ravishing exotic and sensual melting feeling of Hevin's dark and spicy chocolates.

Doesn't it all feel just great for a RIVER AFTERWORK ?
And what's the story behind the name ?
L'ATELIER du FRANCE is totaly devoted to a huge and fatastic enterprise: building the new streamliner FRANCE, who has remained in every French person an intact legend. This new FRANCE will be the ambassador of the French touch on  a ship that will be the epitome of modernism and comfort.

Tell you friends, make them discover that special place.

Thursdays is  one of the best days from 6 till 11 pm, but it is opened from Wednesday till Saturday evening.

JORDI LABANDA

This is me seen by my sisters. A baguette bag, preferably from Fendi, a glass of wine in hand, preferably white Chardonnay, if I can give my preference. Blond, yes. Straight hair, yes, nails done, yes with Montaigne Dior nail polish or Particulier from Chanel or even a real Dior Fiery Red. A light fringe to hide .... the micro mini wrinkles that might spoil my forehead !

Well, now you more or less now how  I look like !!! Thanks for the anonimity that I cherish !!!

This is any party in Paris, not right now as it is cold like in the Polar bear states, but even then, you never know there's always an idiot enough to show off !!!

This is the typical French girl at work who takes herself for a real wisdom girl, a real snob, the kind I hate. Huge sunglasses ... to hide from whom ? Herself , of course .

These girls seem fine to me ! I wish were my friends; I'll invite them to follow me !!

This is a Pucci clad icon; full of those on the avenue Montaigne !

Duck lips ? Looks like it. terribly parisian.

Carla Bruni Sarkozy coming home to the Elysées Palace after a night out with her musician friends. Slim and all.

Geese at Paris Fashion Week !

DAAAArling, I bought everything !!!!!

Just beautiful eyes ! And no botox yet !

COULDN'T RESIST !

A BOUTIQUE FILLED WITH BEAUTIFUL TRASH .

Number 113, avenue Ledru-Rollin. Beautiful, shiny objects are neatly arranged and at first glance it looks like jewelry and perfume. But then things become unclear. It’s not perfume nor jewelry...so what is this actually?

Well, the boutique is actually not a boutique, but a work of art by the Copenhagen based French artist, Al Masson. He's been invited by the exhibition room Le Commissariat to do a solo show in the gallery space which is tucked in between the various small stores on this big street.

Next to it hangs a little watercolor drawing, and on a table near it, a shirt is exposed. The colors of the shirt are almost completely identical to the colors on the watercolor drawing. Looking at the shirt and the drawing, one could wonder which inspired the other. Is the shirt made as a result of the drawing, or did the shirt inspire Al to do the drawing? What comes first, the art or the design object, and is there a statement in this?

The exhibition contains sculptural objects, all made out of food packaging and other discarded objects. These are carefully arranged on shelves like in a store. There is also a section with clothing designed by Al Masson.

RESTAURANT NEWS : "HIER ET AUJOURD'HUI"

You're looking for a cosy and welcoming good and hearty restaurant ?

HIER ET AUJOURD'HUI will make it very nicely, believe me.

An old red brick wall, vintage bistrot chairs, table runners made of authentic mattress fabric, curvy wine glasses , a small bar where you want to sip a Martini, a comfortable sofa in one corner : that's for a start.

Karin welcomes you with a big wide and spontaneous smile while Franck, the Chef, is all attention and care in the open kitchen.
They LOVE  truffle. They LOVE foie gras.
The slate changes poems every day according to the fresh products directly from the market in a special blend of traditional and modern cooking.
You'll be thinner by a 30 € check for a 3 course meal so apetizing you'll quickly come back.
Karin and Franck enjoy their week-ends so don't expect the restaurant to be opened on these 2 days; and the rest of the week, you HAVE to make a reservation, otherwise you'll regret it so badly you won't stand it !

You can also buy from them a wonderful foie gras; keep it in mind for Xmas time.

JR

JR ( no, not the one in Dallas, sorry girls, tough luck on such poor culture !!!! !).
JR  is this :

It's a camera, not a gun.
Serious or joker ?

First of all, that guy found a camera in the Paris metro.
As if all photographers started that way. Well, He did !
Now, he owns the biggest art gallery in the world.
He exhibits freely in the streets of the world, catching the attention of people who are not the museum visitors. His work mixes Art and Act, talks about commitment, freedom, identity and limit.

In the favelas in Rio de Janeiro.
JR creates "Pervasive Art" that spreads uninvited on the buildings of the slums around Paris, on the walls in the Middle-East, on the broken bridges in Africa or the favelas in Brazil. People who often live with the bare minimum discover something absolutely unnecessary. And they don't just see it, they make it. Some elderly women become models for a day; some kids turn artists for a week as they help JR glue the photographs on their own walls or roofs. In that Art scene, there is no stage to separate the actors from the spectators.

"I won't take a picture of these women with the idea to change things. I simply want them to feel proud for a fraction of a second." says JR.

"I want everybody to laugh and think when seeing the other's portrait as well as it's own."
Hard not to laugh.

JR posted huge portraits of Israelis and Palestinians face to face in eight Palestinian and Israeli cities, and on the both sides of the Security fence / Separation wall. The experts said it would be impossible.
Still, he did it.

Follow JR !

MERCI

MERCI : a 2 tone word, simple, gentle as merci ; easy with a handfull of goodness like a thank you.

MERCI is not only a word it is also a store; not any kind of store. One of those very special places where you meet all sorts of designer brands with an edge: the edge is to donate part of their profits to  an organisation .

MERCI is a concept-store. You come to Paris , you've heard about it like Colette and you know that you'll have to go there. If you don't get there, you're just a total nobody from as far away as Nebraska, at least, if not Laponia. You know more or less in which neighbourhood it is situated; so you take the stinking and noisy metro and you land at République. Get up the stairs back to Paris's fresh air and then , avenue Beaumarchais, quite expectant to at last come face to face with the unusual .

But then : a roofed passage with that romantic italianate painted "trompe-l'oeil" on the right wall when coming in. Incongruous when you were told MERCI was a modern "it" place.

Old beams, and a real painting right there in an open passage, true, we're in the most ancient Paris neighbourhoods.

Next, you see an old Fiat in a paved "cour", well, yard. No clue to what it means, but well.

And then, that's what it is, a FANTASTIC MIX of everything: furniture, clothes, accessories, china, cutlery, lingerie, men's outfits, woman's furs, paperbacks, pencils and paperwork, lighting and pans, pants and socks, scents .

My MERCI little cosy pinky romantic boudoir. Pure girly charm.

INTERIOR DESIGN INSPIRATION FAVOURITES

I can't resist ; after all, MAISON & OBJET is closing its doors right now and as it is Interior Decoration week in Paris I might as well share with you a few of those Interior Decoration pictures I favour, some come probably from the wonderful blogs I follow with such pleasure, some might come from magazines.
I let you browse into my little personal album :

Chateau de Moissac
For it's natural hues, it's easy decoration, nothing pretentious. Rugged benches down from the farm at the end of the property, deep velvet cushions on it, that's easy enough and ... more comfortable for our small bumpy bums Simple china, off white, clear crystal glasses, candle holders, and a hearty fire in the fireplace.
Now, get hold of the chateau !! That's another story !!

Blakes Hotel London

Its whiteness and special mix of lines and more cushions you could ever dream of.

Blakes Hotel London

from Me and Alice

Because of it's natural and seemingly simplicity. Often the most difficult arrangement to get though.

FLEA MARKET FINDS

It is INTERIOR DECORATION WEEK in Paris if we can say so with MAISON & OBJET going on full blast at Villepinte, hope you have good sneakers !

But for the ones who still had the courage to trod another kind of aleys, it was to venture at the Puces de Saint Ouen, ie Paris's biggest flea market. The secret of course is to go quite often.
But here are a few finds :

The only problem is : I don't have the castle coordinated. What shall I do, leave it ?

A creamer in his second life as paint brush holder, a Sophocle or any of those highly philosophical buddies of those too far passed centuries, a thin and delicate coral piece, a clock fed up from reminding us of the running time : that's easier to get into my little cottage !

And those elegant swimming fellows just hit my eye.

And if you forgot how cold it is in Paris, you'll be clad in old furs !

SMILE !

From the sweet blog of kika reichert who's from Brazil : http://www.kikareichert.com.br/

Made my day !

WHAT A PAINTER !

CARINE HAYOT and her amazing and vibrant mix of colour and texture:

I'll let you be judge . I just fell in love right away !

Bric à brac de l'atelier

The colours of a tonic life, the joyfulness of a happy life, what more can you ask for ?

Bleu / Absolument

All the blues from the Caribbean in large and powerful strokes which makes all Carine HAYOT's paintings so present and full of life.

I had a hard time choosing only a few of her paintings once I discovered and browsed through her website and I couldn't stop until I had gone through ALL her works !

Le banc des écoliers

Citrus, lemon, tangerine, honeydew, pineapple, plum , all those sensual colours all in one energetic shot ! Waow !

And then suddenly, a little more seriousness which I like very much too.

Eternel recommencement

All soft hues, pastels, delicate flowers as delicate and feminine as the painter herself.
When you'll browse through her web site, notice that in many of her paintings, you'll spot that delicate and long stemmed witty flower like a very subtle and discreet signature.

You lacked sunshine, there you have it, full bloom !! Gorgeous colours !

Guess what ? I'll even be kind enough to give you straight away Carine HAYOT's precious web site !
