INSPIRING FOR A DRINK or MORE …

Restaurant News

How good it feels to be with friends around a good table, surrounded by music and life.

Whenever you go to a country, you should ask if there is any restaurant or bar or hotel done by the architects AvroKo.

All these places have in common : comfort.

“LE TOURNESOL” : AN AUTHENTIC BISTROT PARISIEN

A perfect cliché of a Parisian restaurant with its old glass door, heavy burgundy velvet curtains to the floor, the ceramic flooring, the tall  thousand years wooden bar , the simple wood chairs, and the waiters, in black and white with their apron on.

Sounds so Parisian, and so it is. And great it is !

You walk in, you are already welcome with a broad smile by the guy behind the counter.

Then, hard to choose a table, the round one ? One outside as they have those heaters which makes having dinner easy even in Alaska, the ones at the back as if you were on a train ?

The menu offers good fare at honest prices.

Almost every time I went there I was served a glass of champagne ! Don’t ask me why, I don’t know ! I must be looking like a heavy champagne drinker. Bouh !!!!!!!!!!!!

The  clear lines of a simple table.

“May I have the menu ?”

One would expect some “Boeuf Bourguignon” with a powerful Gigondas to make it go down the drain !

WHAT’S UP THIS WEEK END IN IRRESISTIBLE PARIS ? GREAT FOOD AND FUN AT “MAMA SHELTER”

At last a FUN SPOT in Paris !

Well, I should tell you straight away that you have to cross Paris to get there ; imagine, it’s in the 20th arrondissement !!!!!!!!!!!! Only joking ! As if that kind of place could hang in dull 16éme .

Friday night is ideal. In the cold of night, in the heart of our mild Winter, it is the perfect spot to go with a bunch of (young) friends for a gooey pizza, for a fiery drink at the huge bar or for an iconic '”coquillettes dish” meant for one but you end up with so much in your pan ( yes, it DOES come to the table in the PAN) that you could feed the entire Somalia. the “Coquillettes” dish is those shell like pasta melted with cheese, an egg and some fabulous ham. Irresistible !

The DJ will put your senses to a roar .

FISHING IN LAS VEGAS

Welcome to a world of fish !!!!!!!

Chinese Las Vegas restaurant BEIJING 9 immerses you in a world of fish, and more fish, a crisp world of metallic lace, a wet world of water.

Feel like drowning ?!

Walk through a dramatic entrance flanked by gigantic fishtanks into an authentic taste of Northern Chinese cuisine at Beijing Noodle No. 9.

Beijing Noodle No.9 is the kind of casual noodle shop you'd expect to find on the bustling streets of Shanghai, Hong Kong or Beijing.

By the way, they make the best hand-made noodles in town.

“ Enlarging photos make them more powerfull” -Robert MAPPLETHORPE

mapplethorpe-coppola

When one hears the name of Robert MAPPLETHORPE , one pictures immediately sharp black and white almost pornographic photographs of Lisa, the 1st body-building champion ( perfect technical body curves as on an anatomy chart), Milton, Mappletorpe’s lover or of Thomas and Ken, 2 perfectly muscled Black models.

And apart from his detailed photos of flowers, MAPPLETHORPE enjoyed capturing celebrities and real people, until he died at  43 in 1989.

7 rue Debelleyme, Paris 3e.
From Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 7pm.

Until January 12, 2012.

And off to lunch at Le MARCHE DES ENFANTS ROUGES on the rue de Bretagne.

Dilemna : which food stand to choose  ?

First off, a little history to get everyone situated. Marguerite de Navarre, sister of King François the 1st and mother of King Henri the 4th (who was the one to end the religious wars that had been bloodying France), was a very well educated, politically engaged and charitable member of the royal family. In 1534 she had an orphanage constructed in what is now the Marais whose little pensioners were dressed in red as a symbol of their status. The orphanage was closed in the beginning of the 17th century and in 1615 was transformed into a market dubbed the Marché des Enfants Rouges (market of red children) to commemorate the charitable establishment that had occupied the site for almost a century.

from http://www.parisiensalon.com

It remains a market today and has been on the list of national historical monuments since 1982. Today, neighborhood locals still congregate to shop for produce and fresh products, to have a coffee and to converse with other locals, old-timers and merchants.

What is interesting about the marché now is the diversity of its different merchants and products.

An Afro-Antilles café serves up delectable bites to hungry shoppers;

the friendly owner of the Italian booth proposes Illy café on its year-round terrace and will advise you exhaustively on his wines (for which he has a secret passion); a Breton will whip you up a crêpe (but don’t photograph him without asking, he might squawk at you); Moroccan delicacies tempt you from one corner while Portuguese and South American products beckon from the other…

You can even browse an antique shop or park yourself on a bistrot terrace in the back. People even actually still come here for their weekly produce runs, for goodies from fish to flowers to figs.

Located off of the Rue de Bretagne in the 3rd arrdt and opened :
