YOUR PARIS ARTY WEEK-END : Black and White MAPPLETHORPE at Thaddaeus ROPAC and lunch at super bobo Marché des ENFANTS ROUGES

Sofia COPPOLA’s , as a first-time  curator , has ciseled  a very fashionable selection of Black & White photos by Robert MAPPLETHORPE at Thaddaeus ROPAC Galery :

Andy

Katherine Cebrian – San Francisco socialite who used declare peremptoraly :

“I don’t even butter my bread, I consider that  cooking.”

and Marisa Berenson

Paloma PÏCASSO – where has her red red red lipstick gone ?

“ Enlarging photos make them more powerfull” -Robert MAPPLETHORPE

mapplethorpe-coppola

When one hears the name of Robert MAPPLETHORPE , one pictures immediately sharp black and white almost pornographic photographs of Lisa, the 1st body-building champion ( perfect technical body curves as on an anatomy chart), Milton, Mappletorpe’s lover or of Thomas and Ken, 2 perfectly muscled Black models.

And apart from his detailed photos of flowers, MAPPLETHORPE enjoyed capturing celebrities and real people, until he died at  43 in 1989.

Galerie Thaddeus Ropac
7 rue Debelleyme, Paris 3e.
From Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 7pm.

Until January 12, 2012.

And off to lunch at Le MARCHE DES ENFANTS ROUGES on the rue de Bretagne.

Dilemna : which food stand to choose  ?

First off, a little history to get everyone situated. Marguerite de Navarre, sister of King François the 1st and mother of King Henri the 4th (who was the one to end the religious wars that had been bloodying France), was a very well educated, politically engaged and charitable member of the royal family. In 1534 she had an orphanage constructed in what is now the Marais whose little pensioners were dressed in red as a symbol of their status. The orphanage was closed in the beginning of the 17th century and in 1615 was transformed into a market dubbed the Marché des Enfants Rouges (market of red children) to commemorate the charitable establishment that had occupied the site for almost a century.

from http://www.parisiensalon.com

It remains a market today and has been on the list of national historical monuments since 1982. Today, neighborhood locals still congregate to shop for produce and fresh products, to have a coffee and to converse with other locals, old-timers and merchants.

What is interesting about the marché now is the diversity of its different merchants and products.

An Afro-Antilles café serves up delectable bites to hungry shoppers;

the friendly owner of the Italian booth proposes Illy café on its year-round terrace and will advise you exhaustively on his wines (for which he has a secret passion); a Breton will whip you up a crêpe (but don’t photograph him without asking, he might squawk at you); Moroccan delicacies tempt you from one corner while Portuguese and South American products beckon from the other…

You can even browse an antique shop or park yourself on a bistrot terrace in the back. People even actually still come here for their weekly produce runs, for goodies from fish to flowers to figs.

Located off of the Rue de Bretagne in the 3rd arrdt and opened :

TOTAL OCTOBER MAKE OVER

September is always a month of adjustments, kids back to school, you back to your work mates,  but come October, it is the perfect month to get your agenda out while sipping a delightful cappucino with lots of heavy cream topping it ( don’t you dare !).

You agenda is opened on Wednesday September 28th, and a powerful wave of good resolutions swirls in.

Get your body back !!

If you need a little hand to tow you in , open your laptop and check “ healthy-perfection on the web for some sound advice, for some motivating photos; perfect at breakfast time so that you don’t engulp a full bowl of porridge with dewy honey melting the hill of butter you’ve sneaked on, as if we didn’t see you do it ! Ha !

tumblr_lawpyltOFZ1qzr04eo1_500_thumb

There’s for personnal comfort. So wisely true. It sure is a strong and powerful feeling to be in control .

tumblr_li9ni0fMUO1qffloyo1_400_thumb

It all starts really with planning for good food first :

enjoy making a new list of healthy salads to concoct, pick ideas here and there, find all sorts of inviting recipes and images that will motivate you.

It is a pleasure to go to the market and already feel that you are doing yourself some good by just buying the bloddy slimming stuff !

tumblr_l9zm5bPJlg1qe7yq5o1_400_thumb

Food shopping should stick to those healthy areas like the grocery store not the candy store, avoiding  the cheese department as well, and the croissants  counter, that horrid space on earth, you leave it for the fatties.

Breakfast could turn out to be as healthy as that bowl.

Lunch can be as tasty as this but let’s try to keep in mind that your plate should have a go at the following :

And Hapy Hour will resemble from now on as this sunny and colourful plate as below:

Where’s the daiquiri , Babe ?

By the end of the day, this very wednesday September 28th, always be specific; it helps, your motto will be as below :

NUTELLA AND THE FRENCH OR IS IT RATHER THE OTHER WAY AROUND ?

Know what  is that gooey blob ?

NUTELLA MERINGUE . Christ !!!!

You could only be French to eat that !!!

You know what : it’s simply an irreversible, no way out, no flight back delight.

You expected me to give you the recipe, I bet.

Was too good to be true ! Come on, put a little fantasy in your life and pick any meringue recipe, just add the whole chocolaty, nutty, sticky stuff in it and bake for a while.

Nutella is good any ways, even with oysters ! Kidding !

NO, NO, NO ? OH BOY YES ! NOLITA !

Park your car; you’re in car land. You’ll have dinner between an engine and a bolster. Kidding, of course.

Why a FIAT in the middle of your plate ? Well, NOLITA is the FIAT building restaurant.

Sicily, Calabra and Tuscany on the CHAMPS ELYSEES with a strong mix of contemporary art, gastronomy and technology : that’s NOLITA right down the Champs Elysées.

The milky whiteness of a belted burrata with the fluid olive oil sprinkling over the basil leaf adding a touch of green to those sunny tomatoes … Won’t say more. Go !
