Charlotte for ever !
Charlotte PERRIAND is more than ever the ultimate pioneer of FRENCH DESIGN, along with Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier.
Charlotte is that woman posing her back to us, short hair, wearing as sole clothing a pair of ski gloves, a pair of slacks and a pearl necklace, her arms held up in the sign of victory while gazing at the mountains beyond her : who the hell was she ? Such temper, such personnality!
Charlotte has invested the PETIT PALAIS with a good array of her photographs. She used to carry her camera wherever she went and used to take it out as she would a gun, a real cow boy ! A round shaped stone photographed on the shore would then become an oblong coffee table in a heavy wood. Her many photo albums would then become her inspiration boards fos shapes, textures and materials.
Her interest went to small objects she called “ de peu” , little “nothings” :” old dirty shoe soles, pieces of wood with holes in them, brushes beaten up by the waves and rolled on the rocks”. Charlotte PERRIAND granted her “ poetic clad objects” the title of work of art, once on black and white paper.
A few bones …
became what you see below !
Could you imagine even for a second that a fish or chicken bone would inspire her an armchair or a sofa ? She hated right angles, and her numerous trips to Japan led her to even more pure, simple and perfect lines.
