FEMINITY WITH BERTHE MORISOT AT MARMOTTAN

"Finesse" would say the French. Berthe MORISOT had a keen eye on women's nexk and shoulders, painting it with delicacy, with tenderness.

Charming naiveté of a young girl, looking at the painter straight in the eye .

Fresh, light, diaphanous.

Berthe had no fear of colour either .

For a delightful moment, may I suggest a ambly walk through the Ranelagh Garden (see the i-phone application Fan du 16e for a superb description with great pictures), and then give yourself a treat with Berthe MORISOT at the MARMOTTAN-MONET MUSEUM.

Till July 1st, 2012, from Tuesday to Sunday 10am -6pm, and on Thursday late night till 8pm.

EVER BEEN GOOD AT MATHS ? SEE IT AS ART AT THE FONDATION CARTIER; IT’LL MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER !

Mathematics as Art. I wish I had seen them that way when younger and with my butt on those stupid and uncomfortable school benches.

1st time someone clever enough shows it as an interesting and vast world .

A history of mathematics, of the human mind and of contemporary science.

Works are from  Jean-Michel Alberola, Raymond Depardon, Claudine Nougaret, Takeshi Kitano, David Lynch, Beatriz Milhazes, Patti SMith and Hiroshi Sugimoto, all artistic and cinema personnalities.

Undoubtedly the most original exhibit in PARIS ! You’ll see Mathematics differently now and will definitely see them as an emotion of some sorts.

CEZANNE ET PARIS AT THE MUSEE DU LUXEMBOURG

The "Master of Aix" , alias  Paul CEZANNE himself, good buddy of his fellow Impressionnists Monet, Renoir and Pissarro to name a few of his clan , spent a good 44 years in Paris and its whereabouts between 1861 and 1905, ( Cézanne died in 1906). This rich exhibit presented at the MUSEE Du LUXEMBOURG till February 2012 will seduce you with a master collection of many of Cézanne's portraits, nudes, stiil-lives and sceneries.

Paul, though very Impressionnist in his mind, manner  and work, gave a new importance to colour mixed with geometry. He became one of the founders of Fauvism, Cubism and Constructivism ( nothing to do with the Big 5, nor with cubes nor with building of any kind Dah ! and if those words sound like Chinese to you , move on to Wikipedia for more info Dah !) .

Quai de Bercy .

CEZANNE ET PARIS
MUSEE DU LUXEMBOURG
till February 26th, 2012... still a few weeks for you to go !!!!! About 80 works of art, so be prepared .

By the way, Zola, yes, Honey, THE writer, that old fellow who knew so well how to depict society, so, Zola was CEZANNE's  good friend from early childhood ( they were sort of brought up together) but ... Zola made a huge mega top blunder : in his 1st novel, who did he take inspiration from to draw a looser of a painter ? Bet on it, his own friend Paul ! Oh My !!! Cézanne never forgave him . Ever !

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK WITH CHINESE ARTISTS AT CERNUSCHI

The exhibit scene in PARIS is not that exciting, that is the least we can say; ecxept for a few surprises:

At CERNUSCHI, an array of great contemporary Chinese artists give a sense to the Parisian experiments they went through while studying in PARIS.

Far from any easy exotism,  Zao WOU KI, Lin FENGMIAN, Ma DESHENG, Shen YUAN, Wang KEPING, Huang YONGPING, and Chan KAI YUEN ( see that how well I speak chinese ?!) have liberated themselves from millenary schemes to give us a very fresh vision .

MOMENT OF PEACE AND SERENITY AT THE MUSEE GUIMET

The MUSEE GUIMET is the perfect place to find some serenity and some beauty; not only from the works exposed but by the way each sculpture or object is placed.

IMG_2280

IMG_2282

The role of a museum is to offer hospitality to its works as much as to its visitors; this is especially so on the case of in Asian art, where it is the spacing, the blank spaces in-between, that irrigate the subject itself.

And, as in painting, it is emptiness that brings a subject to life, falling into streams, winding itself into the trees and gathering under the mountain cloud. So hollow and loose is the very figure of alternation between full and empty, that it is impossible to pay too much attention to passages, openings and the relationship between exhibited objects.

MUSEE D’ORSAY : MANET IS DEFINITELY THE SUPERSTAR BUT THE MINI STAR IS :

Her :

The crying kid by Albert BARTHOLOME

Look at the details :

detail de fillette pleurant

Would you think she is crying or … sleeping or washing her face ?

BARTHOLOME started doing sculpture once his wife died and he is quite well known for the statue that he did for the Cimetière du Pére Lachaise.

LI-aic-mourners-002b

He is definitely a master in “sorrow” with these mourners.

See more in detail as it is so modern looking.

LI-aic-mourners-006b

No faces shown, hands in front of the face, heads down, nakedness in all its beauty.

LI-AIC-mourners-004b

So much love in this gesture.

LI-aic-mourners-008b

So much despair.

Albert BARTHOLOME lives and sleeps at the Musée d’Orsay under the bronze figure of the “Crying Little Girl”.

BRITISH INVASION : SAATCHI AND MOORE HITTING FRANCE !

SAATCHI is conquering Lille .
Get on board the next TGV to Lille and stop at the TRI POSTAL in Lille for a good taste of Saatchi's so special blend of artits: " The Silk Route" : Iranian, Palestinian, Afghan and Indian young artists will knock your head off with their own Oriental influence.

Look up Shadi Ghadirian and its veiled woman with a vulgar yellow , thick rubber glove instead of a face.
From October 20th, 2010.

Le TRI POSTAL
LILLE

Henri MOORE'S superb curves and smooth pure white lines : what are we talking there ? Women's bodies ? No real ones anyway, but rather stone ones , Henry's .

About 50 sculptures will be exposed at the Musée RODIN from October 15th 2010 till February 27th, 2011.

Instead of grueling over the stupid fact that to loose 2 lbs of fat you need to loose a mere 8000 calories, which is, there's no other word, the end of the world, why don't we set up for a NEW YOU YEAR ?
( Anyway, thank God diets don't work, otherwise, by this time,we would be a size zero ! )

So, a NEW YOU YEAR : sounds terrific to me ! But how do we go about it, honey sweety pie ?

First thing : enjoy the  promise and pleasure of brewing coffee with its subtle and spicy aroma surrounding your delicate nostrils little by little.

While enjoying that totally free moment of yours, sipping that wonderful Brazilian arabica, let your thoughts wander towards all what you would wish yourself if you had the best of horoscopes to read.

A melting - pot of new exhibits to discover, a few new places to explore, several restaurants to try, the new stores to test... We could go all day long with the list. But we'll get to there !

May I suggest jotting down in your agenda THE TOP SEPTEMBER EXHIBITS ?

SEPTEMBER 2010 :

- 4 GREAT PHOTOGRAPHERS at  MAISON EUROPEENNE DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE from September 8th till October 31st, 2010

  "Le Monde en Marche" by
Fabien CHALON ( 51 years old) : this gigantic and activated work of art is in Gare du Nord since June 2008 and strikes  time with all sorts of enigmatic and animated special effects...

Karl LAGERFELD : no presentation needed I believe .
Given to see his works, a teeny weetsy bit of his work : portraits, fashion, sites and architecture.

Kimoko YOSHIDA
Kimiko YOSHIDA ( 48 years old)
"Là où je ne suis pas" : autoportraits from her 1st
brides to "Paints".

Kimiko is a Japanese artist who now lives in France. Her mother had thrown her out into the street when she was 3 and she left with as sole object, her treasure box. She took refuge in a public park to be found by the local police. Since then, she has always felt a nomad, a fugitive. No wonder !

Her "Mary-me" selection of porttraits comes straight from her love as a child to invent bride gowns for her dolls.

- playing hide and seek with tigers or what ? Gotcha !
-or passionnate love affair between Trees and Stones ? Guess who won ?
Well not who you think ! This is exactly what one will see in this 108 photo exhibit: : the gigantic excavation works started in 1943 which will end in... March 2011 ! And from there will resurrect the mountain sized temple of Baphuon.

IMMEDIATE BOARDING FOR THE SENSUAL WORLD OF WANG KEPING : "LA CHAIR DES FORETS"

Till September 12th, 2010 at the Musée ZADKINE : 'LA CHAIR DES FORETS" ( Forest Flesh).

The title says it all.

WOMAN by WANG KEPING

Sensuality, simplicity, vitality, smoothness, tenderness, Life, : talking about us "women" there ? Well, sort of, "Women" of another kind certainly ...  women of wood.

WANG KEPING not only loves women, but well knows how to evoke their powerful feminity and full curves  through the smoothness of the tree's flesh, with its full body feeling, with its branches and knots.

Haven't you ever noticed that when one comes next to a tree, one wants automatically to pat it, to let an innocent hand go smoothly over its flesh ? Well, WANG KEPING went a little further than just carressing it !

WANG KEPING is a Chinese sculptor, born in 1949, who was still in High School when enrolled in the Red Army to be "re-educated". He arrived in France in 1984 where he let his art flow towards feminity.

5 MAI - 25 juillet 2010 : IRVING PENN A LA FONDATION HENRI CARTIER BRESSON

EXPO NEWS : LUCIAN FREUD

Voir " Leigh under the Skylight" 1994, styliste australien qui pendant 2 ans pose jusqu'à 5 jours par semaine !
